Located in the center of the “Udatsu Townscape,” the Yoshida family residence consists of main house, two storehouses, warehouse for Ai and a detached house. The Yoshida family were wealthy merchants who went by the name of “Sanao” and founded an Ai distribution business in Wakimachi in 1792. Their prosperity that followed was remarkable, making them the most or second-most wealthy merchants in Wakimachi. It was designated as a tangible cultural property of Wakimachi in 1999, and underwent large-scale renovations in 2001 to restore it to the Yoshida family residence at the time when it prospered from the Ai business.
