Historic Site of Nankan Otyaya(teahouse) on Buzen Kaido
■Commentary
The Historic Site of Nankan Otyaya was completed in 1852. Today, one main building and a garden with a pond in the shape of a Japanese character for [heart] still remain. Records indicate that the feudal lords used this teahouse when their procession passed through Nankan. It is the only existing building related to the teahouse in the prefecture, and was designated as a National Historic Site in 2003, making it a valuable cultural asset. The nine-yoso-printed devil´s-roof tile and the nail cover still remain, reminding us of the association with the Hosokawa family.
