Consisting of 120 small to large scattered islands, the Amakusa Islands are scenic and filled with lots of wonders that make us think about the origin of life. Its secret is hidden in Amakusa’s unique and complex topography, which is marked by 100 million years of saltation that occurred in ancient times. Amakusa pottery stones, the material for porcelain which was praised as being of “the greatest quality” by Hiraga Gennai, an inventor in the Edo period, are spread all around this beautiful rocky shore. This is one of the very popular photo spots unique to Asakusa. In the early evening, you can enjoy the sun setting below the horizon over the reef.
