The Takechi Family Residence is an ai yashiki mansion built on the plains of Ishii-cho on the south bank of the Yoshino River. The Takechi Family Residence has been home to Ai masters/merchants manufacturing and selling Ai dye since the local farmer Motobee started a branch family in 1726 during the Edo period, naming himself Tenmanya Motobee. All of the buildings of the current mansion were constructed between 1851 and 1876, and took about 25 years to build. It has a structure unique to ai yashiki mansions with its main building surrounded by manufacturing facilities and warehouses and a high stone wall made with piles of blue stones from Tokushima Prefecture. The dignified appearance of the main building is highly acclaimed and demonstrates the wealth of the former Ai merchants.
