This picture scroll shows the Ai-dyeing process. It was painted in 1943 by Sakase Senshu, a painter from Oe-gun Kamojima-cho. The scroll, which is more than 5m in length, demonstrates the seeding, reaping, powdering, drying, and polishing processes, accompanied by the painter’s explanations. Painted vividly with sophisticated brushstrokes, this is a valuable artifact that depicts the traditional Ai dyeing process.
