33.The Remains of the Higashihama Salt Farm’s Water Intake Facility
■Commentary
In order to bring seawater with a high salt concentration into the ryukashiki salt farm, in Showa 30 (1955), the Higashihama Salt Producers’ Cooperative Association constructed a water intake facility far from the estuary, on part of the shoreline located on the opposite side of Mt. Mukai in Osaki. Today, on the shore below the Osaki Rest House, the remains of the facility include a concrete hut, cylindrical structures, and tower containing the pressure regulator. The seawater that was taken in at the shore was pumped over the mountains to Osaki, and another tower containing a pressure regulator can be found on the side close to the salt farm.
