In Taisho 10 (1921), a light railway that ran about 12.7 kilometers between Banshu-Ako Station and Une Station was opened. There were five stations built along the route: Banshu-Ako, Sakoshi, Negi, Matono, and Une. There was also a train stop placed in the area in between each station, and these stops were Manago, Mesaka, Suse, and Tonbara. Une Station was adjacent to Sanyo Railway Une Station, which connected the Ako region and the Sanyo Railway. Because of the role it played in transporting people and the salt produced in the area, it was the station that made the largest contribution to the development of the region. In Showa 26 (1951), the National Railway Ako Line was opened, rendering the Ako Railway obsolete. Although the railway closed, and the route along which it used to travel has changed into things such as roads, traces of its route still exist, and one can still follow the path the light railway used to transport salt along.
