28.Genroku Bridge
■Commentary
In the past, workers at the Higashihama Salt Farm who came from settlements in Misaki traveled over this bridge, which crossed the mio (water channel) of the salt farm, on their way to and from work. In November of Showa 6 (1931), construction was completed on Genroku Bridge, a 24.9-meter-long, 5-meter-wide modern truss bridge that replaced Sanmai Bridge, the wooden bridge that preceded it. Rivets were used to attach the steel plates to the steel frame, and it is the only truss bridge still remaining in the city. Now, the bridge is paved with asphalt, but it is said that the bridge used to be paved with brick. It has been repaired and reinforced a few times and continues to serve as a pedestrian bridge today.
