The Kudo family were playing an active role as Ai masters/merchants. There is still an Ai dyeing facility on the premises, and you can feel the prosperity of the past from the charming ai yashiki mansion. The Kudo family was involved in the construction of Nishioe Station and Egawa Amusement Park, as well as the construction of public facilities in the Nishioe area. They also contributed greatly to the development of the region, and made large donations to Nishioe Hachiman Shrine, where they worshipped. There are a number of Ai-related cultural properties in the Nishioe area of Yoshinogawa City that provide a glimpse into some of the activities of the Ai masters/merchants, with the Kudo family residence being one of the main ones.
