The Yoshimuta Highlands spread out along the foot of Mt. Aso’s outer rim in an area with an elevation of 600–700m.
The lush green plains extend as far as the eye can see, and when the sun goes down, this location provides a sweeping view of Kumamoto City’s nightscape.
Here, there are a variety of outdoor facilities for visitors, including glamping and camping grounds and mountain bike courses. At the Hoshi no Mori Villa, built on top of a hill in the highlands, guests can spend the night relaxing while gazing at the star-filled sky through the skylight in each of the domed guestrooms. The villa is a popular place to stay for novice campers, families, and other travelers.
On top of that, some other activities people can try at the Yoshimuta Highlands include grass skiing on a sled down a slope that takes advantage of the area’s natural gradient and cycling through a mountain bike course that was used during heats at the Tokyo Olympics.
