The name tablet at the shine gate reads, “Kōkuri Shrine.” This was the name of the shrine recognized by Chō Jū Ô who visited here in 1900 and put in a frame. Chō Jū Ô reportedly wrote in India ink Koma Shrine at first, and then he inserted a small letter of “ku” between “ko” and “ma” and muttered “this is the correct one.”
The sacred tree of the 300-year-old early-flowering cherry tree that stands in the precinct with especially elegant shade is also called “Cherry Tree of Omae” and has long graced the front of the shrine. Naosuke Gonda, a poet in the Edo period, composed this poem: “The Omae cherry blossoms of Ômiya should be blooming now. I wonder with whom you are watching it.”
